The Course
Each Musical Theatre training course is different, depending on its focus, context, teachers, and students.
Most will involve intensive classes in Singing, Dancing and Acting, along with rehearsals and productions of Musical Theatre shows. Some may include additional related skills, such as Acting for TV and/or Radio or Stage Combat.
Typically, courses that lead to a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree (BA Hons) are three years long.
Foundation Degrees (FdA), such as the one at Trinity College of Music, are usually two years long. If you wish, you can follow this with a 1-year top-up course that allows you to convert your Foundation Degree into a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree. The advantage of the Foundation Degree is that you complete your training or degree in two years, and then chose either go into the profession at that point, or to do a further one-year course, possibly with a different provider. The Foundation Degree therefore allows more flexibility than a traditional Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Make sure you check whether your preferred college for a 2-year Foundation Degree also offers a 1-year top-up Bachelor of Arts Honours course, like the one at Trinity College of Music.
