Auditions
You will have to audition for a place on musical theatre training courses, as well as achieving whatever entry grades are required. The grades demanded vary depending on the level of the course (e.g. grades required for a 2-year Foundation Degree are different from those for a 3-Year Bachelor of Arts Degree). So do check.
The auditions will vary depending on what each musical theatre course is looking for. Generally you will have to perform one or two solo songs from the musical theatre repertoire and one or two solo monologues which you have prepared in advance.
Your dance skills may be determined either through your performing a solo dance prepared in advance, or in a group situation where you learn a routine taught to you as part of the audition.
At the audition for Trinity College of Music's Foundation Degree in Musical Theatre you will also take part in a group workshop which consists of a basic dance warm-up, learning a new song and dance routine in a group, and also improvising a scene, in a group, that incorporates the song and the dance routine. This will allow the audition panel to get a real sense of your creative skills in a collaborative context.
